Looking back into the first semester.
How was the overall experience of learning Science through ‘Distance Learning’?
Distance learning was an amazing experience and it let us reflect and appreciate school. Although science includes experiments and activities that are usually done at school, this science class has managed to teach the same concepts and ideas through distance learning. We have done all the activities through zoom including the labs and experiments. Each class we had a google slide that explained what we were going to do in the class. This lets people prepare for the activity we will do in class and have the correct materials needed. And to make the experience even better, Mr. Johnston had help sessions every Tuesday and Thursday at 2:00 pm if there were questions not asked in class. If that was not enough you could also email questions or ask for feedback by Gmail or hangouts. Another thing that made this experience more comforting was having formatives before summative tests. When we did formative tests we got feedback and this helped us prepare for the summative test that was the one that actually had an impact on our grade. Having summative is always stressing but this class made it less stressful by always thinking that you can get a second chance. In general distance learning has been very challenging and it has been a different and fun experience in middle school.
What activities or labs did you enjoy the most?
During distance learning, we have done various activities that were challenging and fun to do. The 2 best projects that I enjoyed the most were the kitchen chemistry project and the final laws of motion project. I loved the laws of motion project because this project required the entire learning that we did in about one or two months. We had to do a project that showed our understanding of the laws of motion. I decided to do a Rube Goldberg machine. A Rube Goldberg machine is a machine that does a simple task in a very complicated way. My rube Goldberg machine demonstrated the laws of motion and I explained them in the video that I did. This was a very challenging and great experience in the science classroom. The kitchen chemistry project was also great. This project required us to use a kitchen and it was very fun and we learned a lot. This project was a great way to end the semester and we had an amazing time
