Why are snowflakes so fascinating?

I think that snowflakes are so interesting is because they hit that magic intersection of science and ephemerality. Science, because the conditions of the temperature and air need to be just right for the 'growing' the crystals which resemble beautiful and complex patterns, but also 'ephemeral' in that the snowflake itself is both fragile and with a little warmth, short lived.

I read once that no two snowflakes are alike due to the billions of possible designs and crystalline patterns that forms them. So, when you are seeing a snowflake, no one else has seen the same one ever in human history, nor will anyone ever see that particular type of snowflake again. In an insane world, having a tender moment of natures beauty commands our awe, respect and wonder.
