Should Extinct Species be Saved?

If we have the ability to cloned extinct species and 'bring them back', should we?

In the Comment Field Below:

  • Write 2-3 arguments that support your opinion
  • Try to offer a rebuttal to a person who might take the opposite position.

  1. I think that we should bring back certain animals that went extinct such as mamooths or certain dinosaurs and we should keep them in an enclosed environment so that we can study them better and see how they evolved. If someone says that we shouldn't clone extinct species I would counter saying that it will help us study and it will teach us about evolution.

  2. I think that we should bring back extinct species. Here are my reasons.

The first reason is that we may not have been united in our protection efforts and after the severity of the loss of life might be a catalyst for governments to 'lurch' into action. Bringing them back might help this effort.

The second reason is that a greater biodiversity is better for the planet. The more living things there are, the richer and more diverse our planet is. How wonderful to have a planet like this.

To the nay-sayers, that might think that science is playing the role of 'God' for them, I offer this rebuke: 'Are not the efforts and intentions of humans' also by natural design?

  3. I think that we should not because if we bring extinct animals back they may cause problems. An example of a problem would be dinosaur because they could get to cities and damage it. Also because extinct animals are would not have their old habitats making them not used to new features and things

  4. I think that it depends because 1. yes, scientist and us can learn about more species but 2, it could put us in danger since we don't know much about this animal, or the animal could even kill us.

  5. I believe some of them should. Extinct species of dinosaurs might be too dangerous to bring back, but smaller species that could help not only humans but the planet itself should be brought back. I believe they should bring back specific species because we could benefit from them

  6. Although it would be an great idea to bring them back for research purposes, it's also an bad idea since things could go out of control. Besides it i think that they should try first building a place meant for the especific extinct specimen so it doesn't die or escape.

  7. I think that the only animals that should be brung back are the ones that have been extinct due to humans, but I also think that we should not bring back the animals whose house has been destroyed because then they would suffer if they cannot adapt to another place.

  8. I believe extinct species that haven't been alive in millions of years shouldn't be brought back but recent species such as tiger kinds that have gone extinct should be brought back if they have already been in a world were humans exist. This is because if we make an extinct animal from millions of years in the past we don't know how it will react but if it's a small species such as a dodo bird I believe that after much time studying how it would react it should be brought back.

  9. I think that we shouldn't bring back dinosaurs because no one was alive back when they were alive so no one really know how to protect themselves from dinosaurs. Also, they can be really dangerous and to bring back dishonors it can extinct humans. Also, where could they live without affecting the humans.

  10. In my opinion I think we should not because, it's part of the history that it ready has been extinct. Also to bring back what was already been extinct wouldn't be a great idea.

  11. I think it would be dangerous to bring back animals that are already extinct. Because the environment that the animal lived in the past, is very different from our environment today and people might get hurt.

  12. i think it depends. foe example, i think that dinosaurs should not be brought back to life because i think they can hurt people. but also, i think that they should be brought back to life because they didnt deserved to die.

  13. If we had the ability to bring extinct species back to life, we should. First of all, they could be used for research purposes. A lot of these animals, and their behaviors could explain world history, and give scientists more insight on what life was in their era. Additionally, some of these animals/ species could be used to help the food chain, and control the animal population. Bringing extinct species back to life, could also make a lot of money for meuseums, zoo's and parks. mamuths, and other hairy animal's fur could be used to help poor communities stay warm. ALthough, I do believe that there is a negative aspect with this. For instance, dinosours could be a big threat for society, and can be sources of distruction, rather than progress.

  14. Yes, but it depends on the animal because they could be very dangerous.

  15. i think it depends because some extinct species are dangerous to mankind but also there are some that were extinct because of humans, so i would say that if they are not dangerous the should be saved.

  16. On second thought, I think they should be left to go extinct.

Whether extinction is 'natural' or 'unnatural' it's a natural part of life on earth. So far, there have been 6 major extinctions in earth's history and by all estimates, we are in another one.

The loss of the dinosaurs gave rise to mammals and, of course, us. Without them perishing, who knows what the surface of the earth would look like now?

To people that say 'we should bring them back', I say this: nature selected them for extinction. If they were not able to adapt and grow and thrive then maybe they weren't meant to be. Only the strong survive. Actually, I take that back. Only the adaptive and smart will survive.

  17. If we were to bring extinct species back to life, we have to first of all, see how does this help us improve what we have now, if we bring back dinosaurs, how does it help us? We need to figure that out first because if we just bring them for decoration, it can be very dangerous as time flies. I think it really depends how you see things.

  18. I think, that the ability, to save, bring back extinct species, depends, on the type of creature, and behaviour. For example, bringing, dinosours, would give and end to hummanity, so people should be able to control, and take data of the animals, for tehm, not to hurt other people. I would say it depends, on the type, and if humans, are able to control, the animals, keep them in a place were they cannot hurt anyone.

  19. I think that we shouldn't bring all extinct especies back because then we wouldn't have place in the world and because in most cases if something happened it is because it had to happen and even if you try to stop it the universe will make it happen.

  20. I think some extinct species should be saved because some species can be too dangerous because some species like the t-rex can be really dangerous to the world

  21. I don't think we should bring animals back from extinction because, it is natural selection and if they go extinct there is a reason for it. Some animals got extinct because of humans and there I could have a argument to bring them back but at the same time I personally wouldn't because they already went extinct and I think there is a pretty high chance that they go extinct again unless we change their way of life.

  22. There are many pros and cons to this idea, based on the knowlege I have, animals help the ecosystem in many different ways and can help the earth which is a good reason to bring back extincted species. So I believe that maybe if it is possible we can bring back extincted species.

  23. I think that animals that have gotten extinct because of humans should be saved. We where the ones who got them extinct, they didn't get extinct in a natural way. But I think that animals like dinosaurs or mammoths should not be saved because first they could be really really dangerous to our animals in today's earth. Dinosaurs would be the "kings" of the food chain in exception of humans. Also, the animals that got extinct of a natural reason where extinct because of something it could be bad or good.

  24. If we could to bring back extinct species I think we should. My first reason is that many of these animals have gone extinct because of humans fault while they didn't deserve to die. My second reason is that they could help with research purposes and we would get to study their behavior, habitat, food, etc. At the same time some of the animals could be dangerous and could affect our environment therefore im somewhere in the middle.
