Looking back 2020!

How was the overall experience of learning Science through ‘Distance Learning’? Overall, Science through distance learning was very fun and productive. Even though we were not in class, we got to try different experiments at home and learn the different chemical changes or laws. Although we had fun doing labs, it also helped our learning and understanding. I like how Mr. Johnston gave us a general idea about the topic in class, and then we actually got to try them out by doing activities and labs. What activities or labs did you enjoy the most? Throughout the year, we have done many labs and projects in science. But specifically, I enjoy the summative choice video. I liked how a very familiar thing like pizza is a chemical reaction. I also enjoyed learning to read the periodic table.

2020 year of the groundhog

Learning science over distance learning has been quite the experience for me. At least I can do experiments at home.  Learning science over zoom has been fun because who doesn’t like science. In science class I have been doing a lot of science lab experiments on Newton's laws and chemical reactions which has been really fun especially since we made videos. My favorite activity I have done was doing the rubber egg experiment which I found super cool because the egg look’s like it turns rubber after you leave it in vinegar after 3 days. One lab experiment I am most proud of is the summative lab choice board because I choose to do it on how running connects to Newton's laws of motion. One thing I liked most this semester is reading all the many articles from newsela because they are very informational and cool to read.

The year everything Changed. Zoom Became Parts Of Our Lives

Yeah, that is right, 2020 was a year no one expected was going to be like this. I just expected it to be a normal year. 2020, was the year of surprises, I remember going to school and two weeks later going home because of quarantine. I thought that it would have just been 2 weeks but now we are in December Wow. As well Zoom came part of our lives, seen people from just a little square, made me sad. But everything, I accustom myself to this situation.  Teachers, made all of the effort to make students feel comfortable and happy.  As well as adjusting the lessons to distance learning.  Talking about Science class, my overall experience in Science was really, good, I really had fun with the experiments. My favorite activity was the  Kitchen Chemistry: Summative Choice Video since I got to do the experiment, and because I wanted to try it, for fun. As well, some activities that I liked was Newton’s 3 Laws: Summative Choice Project, since I got to do a scratch and explai...

Goodbye School hello Summer

What did you like most about Science this semester and what general suggestions for improvement do you have for your teacher?  This semester taught me so many things, but if someone asked me what did I liked the most, it would be the lab experiments, I find them cool and interesting, and doing them was fun for me. I love Mr. J's class, but if only I could change something about it, it would be probably to make a least amount of Summatives, but after that, I think it's perfect.

How was the overall experience of learning Science through ‘Distance Learning’?  To my surprise distance learning was much tougher than I would've ever expected it. Spending hours looking at a screen wasn't as easy it had its ups and downs but it was a great experience. Some of the challenges I faced were internet issues, worrying about my family's health due to the virus, being terrified of world problems, just hoping for this to be a bad dream and to wake up soon, etc. Even though I've faced a lot of different problems distance learning has also taught me a lot like how to manage my time and be able to turn in all assignments without having to go in a rush, how to divide work equally while working in a group, how to collaborate, communicate, reflect, etc. Science class has been great I learned many fascinating and interesting things that the world can create and do. Even though this pandemic has caused many troubles we should see it as challenges that we need to ove...

The Year We Didn’t Expect

2020 has been full of secrets. A year that contained a very big world issue that we weren’t aware of. Everyone had their 2020 new years wishes, but nobody knew their wishes wouldn’t come true due to a pandemic. Well, I know it has been very tough for all, but everyone has been trying to take good things out of an awful situation. Teachers and all school members have been working very hard for us students to feel comfortable and happy with distance learning, well, they have reached their goal. In science this year, we weren’t able to have the complete experience of being in a physical classroom but it has been overall great. We have learned physics and chemistry. In physics, we learned about Newton's 3 laws of motion. This unit was great because it made us understand how life works and why we are standing here on earth. As Newton's 3rd law stated, for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction, and this is exactly what has happened during this year. If a car crashed a...

My Science Quarter

How was the overall experience of learning Science through ‘Distance Learning’? The experience was really good for online learning because there are some classes that I don't like and sometimes I don't pay attention which only happens in online learning but here I think we did really well for what the plans were and I am really happy for what we achieved What activities or labs did you enjoy the most? Definitely was the video choice cause I think I did a really good job on my pizza and on my video and also I really loved it cause I got to eat it so that was why I loved the experiment so much Which experiments or projects are you most proud of or learned a lot through doing? The experiment I am most proud of like I said before it is the pizza, not only cause I got to eat it but I learned a lot while doing it like the chemical reaction which the yeast did to cause-effect and that, that's my proudest achievement of this quarter on science. Which labs or activities woul...

Which experiments or projects are you most proud  I liked how we built up the Flipgrid project. we did some easy labs that were like a warmup for this one. also, we edited the videos and posted them to a platform called Flip grid. I did the lab of how ice because the name made me curious. I recorded it and afterward edited and posted it.  I'm proud of this project because it's the final one and because we waited for the whole unit to make it. I think I did it pretty well and I also think that we were prepared and that we had the knowledge from the previous labs to make this one.

My Reflection Of The First Quarter In Hell 1

My Overall experience of science in DL was really positive because there were really fun moments of labs and it was really curious even do sometimes I prefer to have the teacher face to face to ask and clear all my doubts. One of my favorite labs was making rock candy because apart od being fun and easy to make we could eat it after we finished the experiment, It is also my favorite lab because it was a lab that I was really proud of and I enjoyed working on it. I think one experiment that should be improved is the flick it because there were 2 data tables and I understood that we only needed to do one of them but I was incorrect and I got a bad grade so I think that lab should be fixed. In conclusion, this quarter on science DL was really fun and entertaining but sometimes hard to understand, and wishing that the teacher could be there and help you with the experiment.

Finally, Out Of Prison

Which experiments or projects are you most proud of or learned a lot through doing? I am really proud of my rock candy experiment because I think I did it really well. I loved making the rock candy and most of all how it tasted. I have to admit it was kind of difficult making it but I persevered and it went well. How was the overall experience of learning Science through ‘Distance Learning’? It went really not as I expected, but I had a lot of fun. My experience during distance learning for me was awesome, I know that for some people it was horrible but for me, it went really well. Something that I didn't like is that we depended on the internet to go to class, what I mean is that you could suddenly get kicked and you couldn't do anything about it but get into class again.

Finally It's Over

How was the overall experience of learning Science through ‘Distance Learning’?   I really liked science this year, not only because we learned a lot but the process was fun, and all the experiments were fun to do. The problem was the distance learning it was good but I think it could've been different not only because our friends are their but also the class commotion that happens throughout the classes. What activities or labs did you enjoy the most?   One activity I really enjoyed was the Kitchen Chemistry, I liked it because we didn't have to write almost anything and the experiments were fun to do and to watch. For me the part that I enjoyed the most was the editing process even though I had some tech issues it was fun to edit it. I think that this activity is something that we can remember because we did on video and the fun we had throughout the process.

Science 2020, the Year of Disasters

Which labs or activities would you kindly suggest being ‘retired’ or improved upon in some way?  I suggest retiring from the rock candy lab because it took a long time and a lot of people failed to complete the lab challenge. It was also very hard to keep the water to evaporate because not many people had a container that was small enough to fit the stick (so the water evaporates faster) and it was hard to keep the bugs, ants, and insects to stay away from the sugary water. Which experiments or projects are you most proud of or learned a lot through doing? The experiment I was most proud of doing was the last summative (choice) because I learned about how to make an egg that bounced with only 2 ingredients. I also learned to edit through iMovie and as a first time, I think I did better than what I expected. I also had fun throughout the experiment because it was like going back to being a kid.

The Year We Couldn't See

How was the overall experience of learning Science through ‘Distance Learning’? I think that the overall experience of learning Science online was really fun. I think this science semester was really fun because we did labs and experiments with materials that we had at home. I think that Mr.Johnston's attitude was key for science, he took his time to make us learn, and with a very good attitude for example making a youtube video with feedback for all of his students. Another thing I liked was how the science lessons were very different from last year, better for me in my opinion because we used technology that made science class more productive. Something else I really like is the lessons and their format I really liked using the pear deck where you could draw, write your answer, etc. Which experiments or projects are you most proud of or learned a lot through doing? The project that I am most proud of was Newton's laws because I saw a huge improvement in my grades. I am ...

I See Trees of Green, Red Roses Too

What activities or labs did you enjoy the most?  For me during all of science class the activity I enjoyed the most would have to be two at the same time, one of them is the Rube Goldberg because I got to spend a lot of time with my grandad because he help me name all of newtons laws in my machine and I enjoyed actually doing the experiment. The other one I enjoyed doing was the elephant toothpaste experiment because I enjoyed looking at the chemical reaction that happened and what the final product looked like. Which experiments or projects are you most proud of or learned a lot through doing?  The project that I am the most proud of would have to be the rock candy experiment because I know how long it can take and how the final product can be very underwhelming but I think that mine turned out really good and that it was the best success in science for me this year by far.

Science This Year

How was the overall experience of learning Science through ‘Distance Learning’?  My overall experience of learning Science through ‘Distance Learning’ was different but I liked it. What did you like most about Science this semester and what general suggestions for improvement do you have for your teacher?   I really liked all the labs we did but an improvement for the teacher would be to go a little slower.

Inside the mind of Evan: My THOUGHTS on SCIENCE?

What activities or labs did you enjoy the most?  I think that the activity that I enjoyed doing the most was the making pizza experiment because it was just so fun to make food for a project and then eating it was just amazing and I hope that this experiment is continued Which labs or activities would you kindly suggest be ‘retired’ or improved upon some way?  one activity that could be retired is the rock candy project because it has taken over a month for the rock candy to form and overall wasn't that fun to do. one thing that could make this project better is maybe adding something to speed up this process

Screen Time

We started distance learning on March 16th, 2020 at first I thought it was ok because I woke up later and I  got more sleep but when it continued it felt like it was going on and on forever and it was getting old and I couldn't see my friends but it did feel good to be safe when covid was out there. It was still pretty bad to hear the numbers going up and how many people were dying in may like 3 months after quarantine started and I realized that my grandma was sick and she was in the hospital and she was there for like a week and she had to live the rest of her life with a nurse that helped her but there was still no cure and she passed away on September 13th and it was the saddest moment of my life and unfortunately there is no way to bring her back. Now I am stuck in distance learning and some of my friends left the school and I could not even say goodbye to them in person so that was also very sad and I hope everything gets better at some point.

What did you like most about Science this semester?

The most i liked about science is that we did a lot of experiments and i learned a lot from those also that we did a lot of group work and we could choose our partner and i also learned a lot from that.

Looking back into the first semester.

How was the overall experience of learning Science through ‘Distance Learning’?   Distance learning was an amazing experience and it let us reflect and appreciate school. Although science includes experiments and activities that are usually done at school, this science class has managed to teach the same concepts and ideas through distance learning. We have done all the activities through zoom including the labs and experiments. Each class we had a google slide that explained what we were going to do in the class. This lets people prepare for the activity we will do in class and have the correct materials needed. And to make the experience even better, Mr. Johnston had help sessions every Tuesday and Thursday at 2:00 pm if there were questions not asked in class. If that was not enough you could also email questions or ask for feedback by Gmail or hangouts. Another thing that made this experience more comforting was having formatives before summative tests. When we did forma...

Looking back at Science

What is the project your most proud of and why? The project I am most proud of is the collide them project because I tried really hard and got a good grade. In the collide them project I had trouble discovering a way how to measure the collision so I took my time and found a way. So this project was a total challenge but I did it. What do you want to improve for the next semester? I think that I want to improve my communication in class because I do talk in breakout groups but not in the main session. I would also like to collaborate more and put more effort into my projects and experiments.
